I will be performing with my motor arrays at the Geffen Contemporary in October as part of the newly reinstated MOCA Music series. The upcoming atmospheric performance will incorporate live electronics and motor arrays to evoke night-calling insects and awakened memories. Bana Haffar will also be performing a set on modular synth. And we both apparently wear camping headlamps during our performances.

Consisting of members Casey Anderson, Scott Cazan, Clay Chaplin, David Paha, and Stephanie Smith, Bitpanic is a computer music collective based in Los Angeles that explores networked compositional systems, experimental sound practices, and improvisation. The group follows and extends the computer music lineage pioneered by The Hub, with current members who are former students and colleagues of The Hub co-founder Mark Trayle.

Stellar Remnants will be premiered by cellist Johannes Moser at the Laguna Beach Music Festival this February. The piece, composed by Ellen Reid, features a custom-made performance interface which I designed, built and programmed for the piece. I also created Stellar Remnants‘s installation component which will be on view prior to the performance. The installation features hanging steel plates that respond to movements surrounding the structure.

This Friday, October 3rd at 7pm, the new WaveCave Sound Gallery at CalArts will open with an installation by Mark Trayle titled Zephyrs. There will be a reception outside the WaveCave in the ROD lobby at 7pm followed at 8pm by an amazing concert of new works by ESP alumni.

This installation of sound and video blends the Centre’s upcoming theme of globalism with the previous exhibit, Future Tense- Futures Project.
